We all feel suffocated.
The burning scent of “Chinese Sticks” filled the entire office as my Chinese Bosses went from room to room. I look at them pass through me one by one in their corporate suits as if they were ghosts.
Every seventh day of the seventh month, Chinese would throw a feast, an offering, for the souls who are believed to be thriving in their own homes and establishments. And so there they go, bowing and muttering to invite the entire ghost living in the office to devour the donuts and munchkins my boss had prepared.
And oh! My master also ordered lechon baboy and manok, siomai, lots biscuits, beer, wine, rice, hopia and fruits. All the main doors were posted with these goodies. And I just mighty hope the “ghosts” will finish everything off before the real ghosts attack.
We also do the halad every November for the All Soul’s Day but not to invite spirits for feasts (this is what I understand). We do the halad in the belief that long dead relatives and love-ones would come back and pay us a visit on their honored day.
My master said that their practice very 07-07 is already a mixed culture. Ahehehehe Chinese really loves to mix things, right? No wonder some of them becomes abnormal because of their mix bloods. No offense. Just an observation.
